Arnold Dreyblatt is a Berlin based American composer and visual artist. At the Serralves auditorium, Dreyblatt will present solo pieces as well as compositions for ensemble played by a group of guest Portuguese musicians.
Having studied music with some of the most prominent American composers such as Pauline Oliveros, La Monte Young and Alvin Lucier and media art with Steina and Woody Vasulka, Arnold Dreyblatt belongs to a second generation of American minimalist composers. He developed a unique approach to musical composition and performance through the invention of instruments, techniques and tuning systems. Often described as one of the American minimalists closer to rock music, he has remained as a cult figure. Bang On A Can All Stars, Jim O'Rourke, Pellegrini String Quartet and Crash Ensemble are examples of musicians and ensembles who have collaborated with Dreyblatt and played his compositions. The music of Dreyblatt and his Orchestra of Excited Strings has been published by important discographic projects such as Tzadik, Hat Hut, Table of the Elements and Cantaloupe. Amongst the albums we can find some mythical titles like "Nodal Excitation", "Animal Magnetism" or "The Sound of One String".

Guest musicians: Gonçalo Almeida, Jorge Queijo, José Valente and Sérgio Carolino.

This activity is related to the exhibition "The Sonnabend Collection"
