A + A Books presents the book "Architecture Guide Álvaro Siza - Projects Built in Portugal " (Portuguese-English bilingual edition), in the presence of the architect Álvaro Siza.
The book will be presented by the Professor and Architect, Michel Toussaint.

A brand-new publication, this Guide allows readers to discover works directly built in accordance with projects designed by Álvaro Siza - Portuguese architect who in 1992 won the Pritzker Prize, the world’s best known Architecture award. Since his first works he has been recognized in Portugal as a talented architect who has charted a path that until that time was relatively underdeveloped in the context of the Modernist Movement. This path implied a desire to create new forms and a global understanding of the work itself and its surroundings, that had been less valued prior to this movement. The works included in this Guide, cover the period from the mid-1950s to the present day. They reveal his method, based on the design of observation and creation of forms / spaces, which also became famous because of his unique architectural lines and his way of seeing that jointly deliver meaning. The book thereby demonstrates the constructive, aesthetic and ethical paths that the architect has explored.
The Architecture Guide Álvaro Siza: Projects Built in Portugal will provide readers with a road map to all his works built in Portugal, chosen by Siza himself, presented in information sheets. The book includes texts written by Marta Sequeira. and drawings accompanied by original photographs, or in their absence, new colour photographs by Nuno Cera, who focused his poetic photographic gaze on these architectural works, during a "winter trip".
This Guide is a must-read for anyone who wants to learn more about the results of Álvaro Siza's exceptional career in Portugal, and is a useful guide for visiting a work in a specific place, or a work chosen out of curiosity. It also makes it possible to organise programmed tours through Portugal, or a specific region or city. The Guide will therefore enrich readers’ cultural understanding, because an architectural work is also a testimony of human genius, especially when it is built in accordance with the designs of one of the world’s most renowned architects.
