COFFEE WITH SCIENCE - A FUTURE WITHOUT SALTWATER FISH? AQUACULTURE IN OUR DIET
23 SEP 2018
With Raquel Xavier (CIBIO-InBIO)

Let's look at the ocean and maybe we won’t like what we see ... The largest habitat on the planet is threatened by overfishing, plastic pollution, climate change, among others. And this has direct implications on the lives of Portuguese people, who have the highest level of fish consumption in Europe and the seventh highest in the world!

Raquel Xavier has a B.Sc degree in Applied Biology of Marine Resources from the University of Lisbon. She developed her master's and PhD theses at CIBIO-InBIO, where she has studied the evolution and taxonomy of marine isopods, and currently works there as an assistant researcher. Her research interests relate to the understanding of interactions between microbiomes and infectious diseases in saltwater fish.
