Conference related to the exhibition "Juan Miró: Materiality and Metamorphosis" with Robert Lubar Messeri, curator of the exhibition, Professor and Director of Càtedra Miró na Universitat Oberta de Catalunya.

As one of the founding fathers of Modernism, Joan Miró reconceived the very nature of painting. His development of an innovative language of pictorial signs and his conception of color as structure transformed Twentieth Century art.  But this reading of Miró as a quintessential Modernist also denies some of the artist's more radical and unorthodox approaches to painting.  As much as a founding father Miró was also Modernism's illegitimate son.  This lecture focuses on Miró's dual personality as a painter and an anti-painter through a close examination of his working methods and processes.
