Laura Cannell’s violin has begun to occupy a prominent place in Britain’s current folk music scene. Combining traditional and medieval music elements with improvisation, including techniques specifically developed by her, such as the "deconstructed bow", the artist draws inspiration from the emotional influence of the landscape, animal calls or fragments of liturgical music in order to build a unique form of chamber music that avoids historicism and instead inhabits an imagined territory, combining contemporary and archaic elements.
