LEARNING NEW SKILLS IN SERRALVES: SILK EXTRACTION PRACTICAL WORKSHOP
11 JUN 2016
In this practical workshop, participants will learn about the extraction of the silk thread from cocoons, with the guidance of Maria Teresa Frade, a natural artisan from Castelo Branco.
After careful creation of the silkworm (Bombyx mori), extraction is a crucial step in order to obtain high-quality raw material. In Portugal there are few craftsmen who still work with this extraordinary fibre, and even fewer who understand its mysteries.
During the workshop in the room, participants can make a guided tour of the creation of the silkworm in Serralves Farm.
