MAKE IT HAPPEN: Creating Businesses

The International Conference on the Creative Industries aims to analyse the new challenges faced by the Creative Industries on the horizon of EU 2020, specifically with regard to their role in catalysing innovation and internationalization.

For this conference, partnerships have been established with different international organizations who have developed innovative projects and initiatives in the fields of urban innovation, articulation between the Creative Industries and other business sectors and exploration of new markets.

Alexandre Pinto
CEO and Co-Founder of iClio, a company dedicated to the creation and publication of content for digital media, in the areas of history, heritage and culture. He is also Expert Reviewer at Portugal Ventures, Mentor at Beta-i and Co-Founder and business developer at CoolFarm. He was also researcher for the European Commission and for the University of Coimbra.

André Miranda
CEO at The West European Symphony Orchestra and, in this context, Portuguese representative in the Creative Business Cup. He also received a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation to study at New York University.

António Murta
Managing Partner and Co-Founder of Pathena, an investment company in the area of Information Technologies. He is also a non-executive Board member for two companies that are owned by Pathena. He was also CEO and Founder of Enabler and founder of various companies in the ICT sector, including Mobicom. 

António Pires de Lima
Minister of the Economy. He was Chairman of the Executive Committee of Unicer, Bebidas de Portugal, starting in July 2006, and also Chairman of the Executive Committee of Compal (since 1993), Executive Vice President of Nutrinveste (since 2000) Chairman of the Executive Committee of Nutricafés (since 2002), all in the Nutrinveste/Compal Group, where he remained until the end of 2005.

Carlos Moedas
European Commissioner for Science, Innovation and Research. He was Assistant Secretary of State for the Prime Minister in the XIX Constitutional Government. He also worked with Goldman Sachs and with Eurohypo Investment Bank.

Emídio Gomes
President of the North Regional Coordination and Development Committee. He was Director of the School of Biotechnology of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Chairman of Portus Park – Network of Science and Technology Parks and & Incubators, and Member of the National Council for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, among others.

Feraw Kebede
General Director of Oliberté Footwear, in Ethiopia. This organisation is the first worldwide manufacturer of footwear certified as Fair Trade, offering premium products.

Jelmer Boomsma
Executive in charge of strategy and management of Grrr, a design, interaction and communications agency in Holland. Co-coordinator of the project We Want Cinema, winner of the Creative Business Cup. He also has vast experience in the area of ICT.

João Abecassis
CEO of UNICER. He was also previously a member of the Board of Directors of UNICER. He was also Vice President of UNILEVER in the area of "Shopping & Customer Marketing”, and held various other positions in this organisation. 

João Afonso
Co-Founder and CEO of Musikki, aggregator platform of musical information and, in this context, Portuguese representative in the Creative Business Cup. He is also mentor for the Building Global Innovators accelerator. He was a researcher in the areas of telecommunications and new media.

José Neves
CEO of Farfetch and entrepreneur. He has a long career in the area of fashion and technology, having started his first company in 1994. Winner of various awards such as the British Fashion Award and the Ernst&Young London & South Entrepreneur of the Year Award.  

Luís Braga da Cruz
Chairman of the Serralves Foundation. He was Minister of the Economy in the XIV Constitutional Government and President of the North Regional Coordination and Development Committee. 

Manuel Correia da Silva
Co-founder of City Furniture Designs, in Macau and Chairman of the +853 Cultural Association. He was Assistant Professor at the University of Saint Joseph, in Macau and previously a Designer.

Mary McCarthy
Director of National Sculpture Ireland. She was Executive Director for Arts and Culture of the Authority for the Development of Dublin Docklands, Director of Programmes in Cork, President of Culture Ireland and Board member of the Irish Museum of Modern Art.

Miguel Pina Martins
CEO of Science4you. He is also a Board member of the National Council for Entrepreneurship and Innovation. He was also an analyst in the banking area. 

Nuno Bernardo
CEO of beActive Entertainment, a company specialising in cinema, TV and digital, holder of recipient of various awards and nominated for the EMMY awards.

Pedro Abrunhosa
Singer, Composer and Entrepreneur. He taught double bass at the Lisbon Hot Club school, directed and produced the programme "Even Jazz”, at the Porto Radio Club. He founded the Porto Jazz School and the "Cool Jazz Orchestra”, which would become "Pedro Abrunhosa and the Sound Machine”.

Pedro Pina
Global Client Partner at Google. He was also Vice-President of Europe for Global Brands, General Director of Clix, Brand Manager of Procter & Gamble (Portugal and then Europe) and visiting professor at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa.
Rasmus Tscherning
CEO of the Center for Cultural and Experience Economy (Copenhagen, Denmark) and Founder of the Creative Business Cup, a worldwide competition of creative entrepreneurship. He is also Chairman of the Policy Learning Platform of the European Creative Industries Alliance.

Rob Goffee
Professor at the London Business School, in the Senior Executive Programme. He was also Dean of the London Business School and Director of Innovation at the same institution. He is also a consultant for large multinational companies, having developed research in the areas of entrepreneurship and management.

Rui Lopes Ferreira
CFO of Unicer since 2006, Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee since 2013. Previously he held positions at BPI, from 1986 to 2006, in different areas such as Corporate Finance, Corporate Banking and Private Equity.
