French artist Gil J Wolman (1929–1995) was a pioneer in the exploration of the intersection between text and image in the art of the twentieth century. ‘I am Immortal and Alive’ is the first extensive monographic exhibition of Wolman’s oeuvre produced outside France. It features 250 works and documents from `L’Anticoncept´ [The Anticoncept] (1951) – the famous film that shocked the Cannes Festival – to `Voir de mémoire´ [Seeing from Memory] (1995). The exhibition includes numerous pieces that have never been previously shown and it can be considered as a veritable encyclopaedia of lettrism, the art movement of which Wolman was a protagonist, alongside Isidore Isou and Guy Debord.
The opening of this exhibition will occur on the 28th January, 10pm, at the Serralves Museum. The entrance is free.
