SERRALVES COLLECTION TOURING EXHIBITIONS PROGRAMME
The Serralves Collection focuses on contemporary art spanning from the 1960s to the present, offering an international perspective on Portuguese art since that historical period, which was marked by worldwide political, social, and cultural change. Including more than 4000 artworks, the Collection comprises works that belong to the Serralves Foundation as well as works on long-term loan from various public and private collections.
The touring exhibitions programme of the Serralves Collection, an initiative that aims to promote broad access to culture, is one of the Foundation's cornerstones. Planned in collaboration with the Serralves Founding Municipal Councils, this programme extends nationwide, bringing contemporary art to communities outside of major urban centres.
The exhibitions conceived for this programme rely on the active involvement of various artists represented in the Collection and on the presentation of new acquisitions and previously unseen works, consolidating ties with the artistic community and promoting the construction and dissemination of knowledge about the Collection. Every year the program’s curatorial team develops new exhibitions adaptable to different contexts, including solo and group exhibitions that cross different generations and artistic practices.
Each exhibition is complemented by an educational programme which includes activities aimed at different audiences, such as guided tours, family workshops and training opportunities for educators and teachers.
