This exhibition - the first within a series that brings together a work from the Serralves Collection and materials from Serralves’ documentation archive and artist's books - is dedicated to Alberto Carneiro. Operação estética em Vilar do Paraíso [Aesthetic Operation in Vilar do Paraíso], 1973, is contextualised by means of various documentary materials - monographs, invitations, posters, exhibition catalogues - and several artist’s publications associated with Alberto Carneiro’s exhibitions in the 1970s including: O caderno preto [The Black Notebook], a set of notes and drawings originally presented in a solo exhibition in the Galeria Alvarez, in Porto, in 1971 and defined by the artist as ‘a programme of action’ and a set of drawings of the projects displayed in his first anthological exhibition, at the Centre of Contemporary Art / Soares dos Reis National Museum, in 1976.
