CHRISTINE BORLAND

from 10 APR 1999 to 23 MAY 1999

Christine Borland (Darvel, Scotland, 1965) is one of the most significant artists within the British young art scene. Having commenced presentation of his work in 1987, he was nominated for the Turner prize in 1997. His work revolves around questions such as memory, reference and identity. The intimate atmosphere of his projects question the place of the human condition in a society that disassociates knowledge from emotion. Invisibility arises in his works as an atrophied cry for attention. This exhibition was the first to present an anthology of the artist’s work, and was co-produced by Stichting De Appel (Amsterdam), the Museum für Gegenwartskunst (Zurich) and the Serralves Foundation.

Curators: Saskia Bos, João Fernandes and Rein Wolfs
