Both in his site-specific interventions and in his books, Daniel Buren creates in situ pieces. In his works he uses 8,7 centimetres wide coloured stripes that he calls his “tool”. His books constitute entirely independent works that may contain texts or “photographs-souvenirs”. In catalogues for group exhibitions he usually chooses an intervention specifically conceived for the exhibition at hand. The recent acquisition by the Museum of “Du vélum au volume” and “Passages” – two of his most significant works/publications – has made the Serralves Library collection one of the most complete in terms of Daniel Buren’s books. This exhibition will allow audiences to discover an important aspect of Daniel Buren’s work and it will also include a series of posters and invitations created by the artist.
