Faithful adaptation of Camilo Castelo Branco’s most famous novel: the impossible love of Simão Botelho and Teresa de Albuquerque, due to family rivalries, crossed with the resigned devotion of Mariana for Simão. A story set in the nineteenth century inspired by real people, from Camilo’s own family, who were imprisoned in the Cadeia da Relação in Porto, where his uncle Simão had also been incarcerated. The characters of Teresa and Mariana are played by two ‘ephemeral actresses of Portuguese cinema’: Cristina Hauser and Elsa Wallenkamp.
