The Serralves Foundation’s collection has progressively forged a perspective on artistic creation from the last four decades, associating historic works by artists who pioneered the paradigm shift that may be discerned in the art world in the 1960s and 1970s with works by artists who since the late 1970s have constructed a very singular outlook in the context of contemporary artistic creation. The present exhibition is an initial moment that focuses on the presence of photography in the Collection. The works on display exemplify certain of the most productive conceptual programmes, resulting from artistic use of the photographic medium: the relationship between Art and the Landscape, self representation and critique of social models - whether of a social and political nature or the result of provocation concerning the existence of structuring cultural models within the field of the production and circulation of images of art in the contemporary world.
