EX-MACHINA COLLECTIF NOMINOË

04 OCT 2013
The Nominoe collective, which works in relation to practices of expanded cinema, presents Ex Machina, a project whose basic idea is, in their own words, "the use of cinema as a medium and its reduction to the elementary active principles: light and shadow, by manipulation of the projectors as sources of pure light”. The mobiles suspended between the projection devices and the screen, motor driven or manipulated by the performers, substitute the printed surface of the film.(...) The set of elements combines their effects of transparency and opacity in order to produce a dramatisation of the light. The screen is no longer a neutral, smooth and opaque surface that reveals the world of representation in order to become energy reserve, directly resending its hypnotic effects to the room; Ex-Machina follows a musical score that orchestrates an extensive movement and intensive speed. It simultaneously creates its own sound universe via the sounds produced by the different constituent parts (projectors, motors, optical bands ...). The sound and visual machine is put in motion, accelerating gradually, eventually surrendering to the momentum and self-destructing in a final explosion. The screen, viewed in all its dimensions, seems to leave the confines of its square format in order to be incorporated within the spectators’ bodies. "
