This exhibition is the first ever anthological collection of the works by Lourdes Castro and Manuel Zimbro — life partners and colleagues during over three decades.
Lourdes Castro (Madeira, 1930) began her artistic career by exploring the shadows of objects, people and plants in order to forge a singular oeuvre in which she redefined the relationship between the work of art and its surrounding universe. In the second half of the 1970s she created — initially with René Bertholo, and then with Manuel Zimbro — a Theatre of Shadows in which she combined everyday scenes with other situations filled with magical and fantasy-laden elements.
Manuel Zimbro (Lisbon, 1944 – Madeira, 2003) presented exhibitions featuring projects such as ‘Turrets of Earth’ and ‘Secret History of Aviation’.
This exhibition, in addition to these projects and his works with Lourdes Castro, will also present other works by him, for the first time.
