To complement the exhibitions "To the Arts, Citizens!" and "On the Margins of Art", the Serralves Library presents a selection of historical and contemporary publications that allow the public to access a large number of theoretical texts by historians, philosophers, politicians and artists on art, culture and politics and the interactions between them. Their complex relationship has been a matter of discussion for decades. These three shows together do not aim at pointing out solutions, but hopefully they will provide an opportunity to enlarge the publics’ perception on whether or not art should or can be politically engaged.
