Ricardo Valentim (Loulé, 1978) is a Portuguese artist who has been living in New York for the last eight years. This exhibition will constitute the first opportunity for the Portuguese public to confront the full extent of the graphic material — posters, catalogues, leaflets — produced by the artist in recent years, and which Valentim considers as a fundamental part of several pieces featured in international shows.‘Growth and Culture’ also features two original projects, conceived for the Museum rooms and for the Auditorium: an installation titled Models of Democracy, in which the artist resorts to obsolete projectors to confront us with a very unique ‘classroom’, and a twopart film Inkblot Perception and Personality, which is based on a psychological test invented in the late 1950s in the USA and whose highly questioned efficiency soon proved completely out of proportion in relation to the efforts, time and money put into its creation.
