Serralves Collection - Conceptual Form and Material Actions

This display drawn from the Serralves Collection brings to light a selection of paintings, sculptures and works on paper. Createdby artists in Portugal and internationally between the 1960s and the present day, the works have been selected from the permanentCollection of Serralves and the Coleção de Desenhos da Madeira, a private collection on long-term loan to the Museum. The works reveal diverse and sympathetic approaches to constructed and narrative forms in relation to time, space, performanceand language. The formal and conceptual affinities that emerge also point to artistic trajectories across generations, histories and geographies. Artists represented in the exhibition include: Manuel Alvess, Francis Alÿs, James Lee Byars, Guy de Cointet, Tacita Dean, Mirtha Dermisache, Trisha Donnelly, Joseph Grigely, Ana Hatherly, Mona Hatoum, Mark Lombardi, Jorge Macchi, Dimitrije Bašicevic Mangelos, Julie Mehretu, Lucia Nogueira, Dieter Roth, António Sena, Rirkrit Tiravanija e Armando Andrade Tudela.
