TERESA VILLAVERDE: RETROSPECTIVE

Teresa Villaverde (Lisbon, 1966) belongs to the generation of filmmakers who began working in the 1990s, and tried to emancipate themselves from identity-related issues of national culture, and broaden their horizons — in tune with the country —towards Europe and the social changes that marked this period. The director's gaze towards disillusioned youth, on the margins of modernity and without any prospects for the future is laced with a spirit of melancholy, revolt, a sensation of orphanhood, and the hostility of the urban space.
Teresa Villaverde's retrospective offers a global vision of the oeuvre of a filmmaker who has never ceased to be attentive to the contradictory and disturbing urgency of time.
