THE TASTE OF CINEMA - a seasonal cycle of film projections and conversations - returns to the Serralves Auditorium for its 22nd event, conceived as a journey through time from 'five departure points': Portugal, France, the (former) Soviet Union, the United States and the People's Republic China. This cycle is inspired by the expression 'historic compromise' – that was used in the early 1970s in Italy, as the basis for a controversial alliance between political adversaries in order to govern the country - but on this occasion viewed from its literal meaning of 'engagement’. The programme aims to revisit how different filmmakers at different moments in time (from the Portuguese directors Fernando Lopes and Alberto Seixas Santos, to the Soviet director, Alexandre Medvedkine, also including Robert Kramer, Jean-Luc Godard, Chris Marker and Joris Ivens, up to the recently critically acclaimed director, Jia Zhang Ke) have been involved in interpreting the past, present and future of the political contexts in which their works are inscribed. Because birth and metamorphosis of forms are intimately connected to the subjects of reflection to which history endows a character of urgency. Programming: “Os Filhos de Lumière” AssociationAccess: Free entrance subject to collecting a ticket at Serralves.(The programme may be subject to alterations.) The Taste of Cinema is a cycle of film projections and conversations organized by the “Filhos de Lumière” Association, which proposes viewing and discussion of films from all genres, backgrounds, epochs and lengths, in order to ensure that films continue to be made which foster alternative approaches within the audiovisual market.
