Continuing the celebrations of György Kurtág's centenary (1926), ars ad hoc presents two pieces for solo violin and three string trios by the Hungarian composer, who will turn 100 on 19 February.
After presenting José Manuel López López's (1956) Trio III [2008] in its Portuguese premiere a year ago, the musicians of ars ad hoc ensemble now return to his String Quartet No. 1 [2007], a work that shares some musical material and, above all, some expression with the trio.
Also premiered a year ago, a [2025] was the response of Portuguese composer Pedro Berardinelli (1983) to a co-commission from Arte no Tempo, a very lively work written for pierrot quintet, with which the composer pays tribute to figures who were particularly important in his learning process (featured on the debut album by ars ad hoc, released last October by neper music).
Closing this concert, dedicated to the memory of António Oliveira (1953 - 2025), is the sextet fast darkness III: Moonwords [2022], by Chaya Czernowin (1957), presented for the first time in Portugal.

Created in 2018, ars ad hoc is Arte no Tempo association’s chamber music project. Since 2021, contemporary music has taken on greater prominence in the group’s regular work, which has developed its artistic residencies and held regular concerts at the Serralves Foundation, in addition to other performances combining the interpretation of contemporary music with works from the great classical/romantic/modernist repertoire. Programmed by Diana Ferreira, ars ad hoc is made up of a stable group of versatile musicians who, after making a name for themselves in Portugal, complemented their studies abroad. It currently presents a regular season with three programmes at the Serralves Foundation (Porto), in addition to participating in the Arte no Tempo biennials, at the Teatro Aveirense, and at various Portuguese international festivals (Espinho, Leiria, Marvão, Póvoa de Varzim, Viseu), as well as performing “classical vs contemporary” programmes in different locations, with the support of Banco BPI | Fundação ‘la Caixa’. It also holds regular commented listening sessions for schools in the Aveiro region, as part of Arte no Tempo’s “growing up with music” programme, and participates in concerts organised by the Serralves Foundation’s Performing Arts Service, having worked in this context with composers and artists such as David Behrman, Christina Kubisch and Tristan Perich. ars ad hoc focuses on interpreting new music for different ensemble formations, with and without electronics, regularly performing and premiering works by national and foreign composers, working whenever possible in direct contact with the creators, who sometimes write music specifically for the group. Rather than seeking to premiere many scores by different composers, ars ad hoc is primarily concerned with deepening its interpretation of different works, providing them with different readings over time. Among the composers with whom it has worked with are Beat Furrer, Clara Iannotta, Oscar Bianchi, Luís Antunes Pena, Carlos Lopes, and many others. The name of the group is the title of the first album released in October 2025 by Neper Music. It is a partial portrait of the first seven seasons of ars ad hoc, featuring works premiered in Portugal by ars ad hoc, some of which were commissioned by Arte no Tempo. Programmed by Diana Ferreira, ars ad hoc is formed by Ricardo Carvalho (flute), Horácio Ferreira (clarinet), Diogo Coelho and Matilde Loureiro (violins), Ricardo Gaspar and Francisco Lourenço (violas), Gonçalo Lélis (cello) and João Casimiro Almeida (piano).
