Alfred Hitchcock's first color film is also one of the most experimental films ever produced in Hollywood. Adapted from a play by Patrick Hamilton, which in turn was inspired by a real case, Rope presents a sinister case of a perfect crime, where two men murder a person and then throw a party, inviting friends and family of the murdered man, while he remains hidden in a chest, used as a buffet table. Hitchcock's masterful handling of suspense is matched only by his masterful handling of time and space, using a complex mise-en-scène of long sequence shots with depth of field.
