Temporary and unusual occupation of museum spaces, questioning the role and behaviour of the viewer, a focus on hybrid art forms (between performance, visual arts, dance and music) that challenge disciplinary boundaries, an emphasis on experimentation and collaboration: in its 11th edition, Serralves’ annual programme The Museum as Performance continues to follow its initial postulates. This weekend, which is a disruptive break in the regular programming of the museum’s galleries and in the usual uses of certain spaces and facilities (namely the museum’s garage and library), will allow us to understand how artists, in times of absolute uncertainty about the future (generating a fear that could immobilise us), continue to point the way to counteract any paralysis, helping us to rethink the past, reflect on the present and imagine the future, while questioning the validity of certain notions of identity, difference, heritage and memory (individual and historical). As is customary at the Museum as Performance, you can expect a temporary (but memorable) invasion of languages to be decoded, expressed in movement, in props that are anything but accessories and, in this particular edition, in sounds and voices.
