Luis Miguel Cintra is, in his own words, "a theatre person", which does not invalidate the fact that he has also been one of the most remarkable actors in Portuguese cinema since 1970. Co-founder, together with Jorge Silva Melo, of Teatro da Cornucópia, Cintra has directed and performed in hundreds of plays, both classical and contemporary, which are among the most important in world drama, from Euripides to Bertolt Brecht, from Gil Vicente to Samuel Beckett, from William Shakespeare to Heiner Müller. With regard to Cornucópia, Luis Miguel Cintra's theatrical activity is inseparable from the work of set and costume designer Cristina Reis, a collaboration that began two years after the company was founded and has continued for over forty years, with the set designer also creating sets and costumes for the D. Maria II National Theatre, Culturgest and the São Carlos National Theatre, among others.
This conversation between Luis Miguel Cintra and Cristina Reis will be a privileged opportunity to gain insight into their creative processes, a sharing of experiences that will also be a moment of reflection on the work behind the scenes of the theatre.

Cristina Reis was born in Lisbon in 1945. She studied painting at the Lisbon School of Fine Arts in 1960, while also beginning her training in design on the Basic Design Course at Daciano da Costa's studio in Belém. Between 1966 and 1970, she studied Art and Graphic Design at Ravensbourne College of Art and Design in England. Upon her return, she actively participated in the 1st and 2nd Portuguese Design Exhibitions, produced in 1971 and 1973 by the Design Centre of the National Institute for Industrial Research (INII). Between 1974 and 1975, she formed the DEZ cooperative with architect/designer António Sena da Silva, among others, dedicated to organising exhibitions for industry, essentially Portuguese representations through the Export Promotion Fund. In 1975, she began working as a set designer, costume designer and graphic designer at the Cornucópia Theatre, under the direction of Jorge Silva Melo and Luis Miguel Cintra. In order to devote herself to set design, she applied for an internship at the Schaubühne Am Halleschen Ufer in Berlin between 1979 and 1981. Upon her return to Cornucópia, she took over the theatre's management together with Luis Miguel Cintra, beginning a long artistic partnership. During her forty years working at Cornucópia, Cristina Reis devoted herself to designing all the sets, stage props, costumes and graphic images for each play. She developed most of the posters, programmes and all the graphic material needed for the theatre's communications. In addition to Cornucópia, Cristina Reis also created sets and costumes for other institutions such as Teatro Nacional D. Maria II, Culturgest, Teatro São Luiz, Teatro Rivoli and Teatro Nacional de São Carlos. During this period, she was awarded several prizes, notably the ACARTE/Maria Madalena de Azeredo Perdigão Prize (1997); the Almada/Theatre Award for her entire body of work, awarded by the Ministry of Culture (1999); the National Design Award/Portuguese Design Centre (2000); the Gulbenkian Arts Award (2010), and the Theatre Critics' Award (2015).
