Third session of the Carte Blanche to Luis Miguel Cintra, a film, talks and conferences programme that accompanies the exhibition Luis Miguel Cintra - Small Theatre of the World. This session will feature a screening of Christine Laurent's "Vertiges" (1985), one of only two films in this programme in which Luis Miguel Cintra appears as an actor.

‘Vertiges’ is one of the highlights of Christine Laurent's career, who has made a name for herself working in theatre and opera. True to the intricacies that Laurent knew like no other, ‘Vertiges’ tells the story of a conductor of an upcoming performance of the Marriage of Figaro who has his mind and heart on other matters, namely on a mesmerising diva who leaves him enraptured by her presence and voice. However, he finds fault with the members of his cast, who are obviously no match for the woman of his dreams. As the singers encounter one problem or another, it becomes clear that something has to be done about the conductor. Laurent's keen insight into the dark melodramas that populate her film comes very much from her experience as a costume designer for theatre and opera.
