The presentation of the artist’s book Arte em Ação proposes a conversation around a work that is unprecedented within the practice of artist and performer Beatriz Albuquerque, whose work unfolds at the intersection of art, activism and education. This event brings together the author with curator Miguel von Hafe Pérez and researcher and educator Rosário Gambôa, for a shared reflection on the symbolic, political and performative dimensions that run through this project, in a dialogue that intersects different fields of thought and artistic practice.
Arte em Ação is an artist’s book that challenges the traditional boundaries between artistic creation, social intervention and critical pedagogy. Conceived as an experimental and participatory object, it incorporates “do-it-yourself” activism exercises, provocative questions and critical reflections, encouraging readers to take on an active role as agents of transformation. Drawing on feminist theory, sustainability practices and contemporary struggles for social justice, the book positions itself as a platform for creative expression and intellectual engagement, inviting readers to intervene actively through creative practices of resistance and empowerment.
Situated at the intersection of conceptual art, performance and education, this book transcends the traditional format of the artist’s book, proposing a multisensory and immersive experience. Its distinctive structure invites direct interaction: each section presents “scores” or action prompts that guide readers in the creation of individual or collective gestures, whether in public space, educational contexts or artistic practice. In this way, Arte em Ação functions simultaneously as a guide for change and a tool for critical reflection, addressing themes such as gender, feminism, equality, equity and activism.
