MARIANA CALÓ & FRANCISCO QUEIMADELA FEAT. JOÃO PAIS FILIPE, DESMAIO DA NATUREZA
The Museum as Performance – 8th Edition
17:00

For The Museum as Performance, the duo creates a set of cyanotypes based on a collection of plants from the Serralves Park. To produce travelling shots and spirals within the images, they filmed them in vertical and circular movements by manual action in water. These “shadows”, digitally edited and projected in an immersive video installation, will be the motto for a sound intervention by the musician João Pais Filipe.
Mariana Caló and Francisco Queimadela met at the Porto School of Fine Arts and have been working collaboratively since 2010. In their practice, they combine film, photography and sculpture, to create intimate and immersive installations, in which the boundaries between dream, reality, fiction, objectivity and spontaneity are constantly altered and diluted. The work takes place between all these different domains, and despite the fantastic atmosphere they often convey, most projects are based on processes that develop over time, whether in research and investigation, or in fieldwork, or in internal metamorphoses to its continued practice, expressing environmental concerns and the dialogue between the biological, the vernacular and the cultural. While some of the earlier works involved a reflection on the physical, philosophical and symbolic meaning of dense topics like time, more recent works follow a complementary path, aiming to capture a glimpse of the extraordinary that can be revealed in everyday life.
