Sementes Selvagens, is an exhibition organized around the most recent film by artist Rivane Neuenschwander (Belo Horizonte, 1967). Made in partnership with filmmaker Mariana Lacerda, Eu sou uma Arara (2022) is a medium-length film whose title reproduces a famous expression of the Bororo, a people who inhabit the State of Mato Grosso.

With an unprecedented premiere in Serralves, the film is the result of a long period of research and a series of actions in São Paulo that saw dozens of figures inspired by Brazilian fauna and flora parade through the streets of the city in a call to attention for the destruction of the environment and the genocide of the indigenous population. Proposing an interaction between society, nature, and the ecological struggle, and significantly contributing to a cultural and symbolic enrichment of the processes inherent to the social struggle, the film witnesses the moment of great tension that Brazil has experienced in the last year.

Taking Neuenschwander's research and critical reflection on environmental issues and the problems associated with them as a starting point, namely regarding the increasing deforestation in the Amazon Forest, we invited the Brazilian artist Marcelo Moscheta to develop a program specifically designed for this exhibition to from a participatory approach centred on the idea of returning to nature. Moscheta conceived two routes that will start at the exhibition and continue through the Serralves Park, in which various issues will be debated, including the distancing of the consumer society in relation to the natural heritage. This activity is carried out in partnership between the Museum and Serralves Park.

Pororoca or (A Roar on the Path)

Taking as a starting point the research and critical reflection of the artist Rivane Neuenschwander in relation to environmental issues and their associated problems, in particular the increasing destruction of the Amazon rain forest, we invited Brazilian artist, Marcelo Moscheta, to develop a programme specifically designed for this exhibition, based on a participatory approach centred on the idea of a return to nature. Moscheta has conceived two itineraries, that commence at the exhibition and continue through Serralves Park, in which various issues will be discussed, including how consumer society distances itself from natural heritage through the experience of sharing that occurs while moving through the landscape . This activity is organised in partnership between the management teams of Serralves Museum and Serralves Park.

A call is made based on the themes that the artist Rivane Neuenschwander raises in her Wild Seeds exhibition. It is activated by the themes of social, political and ecological struggle. In this context, participants will be invited to take a tour through Serralves Park, to make records and rearrangements of different things and ideas.

The pororoca is a natural phenomenon, caused by the caused by the tides of the Ocean which meet the mouth of the river Amazon, thereby producing a great roar and agitation. It serves as a metaphor of the trajectory, in the process of sharing that occurs during the journey and is materialised through drawings, collections or interventions in the Park’s natural spaces, as participants are encouraged to explore new reinterpretations, transpositions or illustrations of the relationship between Society and Nature.
