Books remain a powerful medium for artists, offering a space for knowledge, reflection, and transformation. As digital media dominates and censorship rises, the permanence of books becomes ever more vital. Every book, regardless of form, holds poetry within its structure and presence. The artists in BOOKS OF RESISTANCE, each with distinct concerns, unite in resistance through their work.
The exhibition opens with The Rain, a poetic film by Marcel Broodthaers, setting the tone for the interplay between language, image, and materiality that defines the show.
It’s within this perspective that the Serralves Library is presenting works by BlackMass Publishing, Bread and Puppet Theater, Marcel Broodthaers, Carla Filipe, Sébastien de Ganay, Ryan Gander, Stefan Marx, Annika Ström, Martine Syms, Nora Turato, Kandis Williams, and Honza Zamojski.
The exhibition Books of Resistance — The Resilience of Artists’ Books in a Digital Age, is organized by the Serralves Foundation — Museum of Contemporary Art, Porto, and is curated by Christophe Boutin and coordinated by Sónia Oliveira.
