OPENINGS: TOM EMERSON IN CONVERSATION WITH THE ÁLVARO SIZA ARCHIVE

In the scope of the exhibition "Aberturas / Openings", on display in the Library of Serralves until March 10, 2019, will take place in this space the lecture of the architect Tom Emerson, on February 7 (Thursday) at 7:00 p.m.
The exhibition "Aberturas/Openings" is the first in the series "Conversations with the Álvaro Siza Archive", aimed at placing the work of Álvaro Siza in dialogue with some of the most relevant contemporary architectural practices. An architect is invited to act as guest curator for each individual exhibition in the series and asked to select specific materials from the Archive and present them in connection with his/her own work. Tom Emerson, of London-based practice 6a architects was invited to be the first guest curator in the series.
Tom Emerson, one of the most unique voices in contemporary European architecture, studied architecture at the University of Bath, the Royal College of Art and the University of Cambridge. The work of his practice, 6a architects, founded with Stephanie Macdonald in 2001, has been nominated for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award on several occasions and received the Schelling Medal for Architecture in 2012. Tom Emerson has taught at the Architectural Association and the University of Cambridge, and is currently Professor of Architecture at the ETH in Zurich.
