In this series, the artist explores the complex stories, connections and traumas within his family lineage. The work takes its starting point from the journey of his great-great-grandfather, Shentaro Esaki, a first-generation Japanese migrant worker who moved to the Philippines in 1903. Joshua’s interest lies in unearthing forgotten narratives and examining his genealogical heritage, particularly in relation to its links with colonial history.
