What can a museum do?
Artists, curators and researchers in dialogue on performance and live arts within contemporary art institutions.
With: Ana Bigotte Vieira, André e. Teodósio, André Guedes and Paula Parente Pinto
Moderated by: Rita Castro Neves
This roundtable brings together four participants whose practices span research, artistic creation and curating. Ana Bigotte Vieira is a researcher, curator and dramaturg whose work focuses on the history and theory of the performing arts; André Guedes is a visual artist and scenographer whose projects move between visual arts, performance and installation; André e. Teodósio is a theatre director, dramaturg, performer and founding member of the theatre collective Teatro Praga; and Paula Parente Pinto is a curator and researcher whose work engages with visual arts, performance, curatorial practices and archives.
Drawing on their respective practices, the discussion brings together and explores different perspectives on the relationships between performance practices, museum institutions and exhibition spaces. It proposes a space for reflection and debate on the possibilities, challenges and transformations that the presence of performance introduces into museums, both in terms of artistic practices and of the ways audiences engage with artworks, spaces and one another.
