'On Tuesday 7 July at 6.30 pm, the book «The Language of Metamodern Architecture» by Paulo Martins Barata will be presented at the Serralves Foundation Library, featuring a discussion between the author and André Tavares (researcher), Diogo Fonseca Lopes (Cabinet), Filipe Paixão (corpo atelier) and Maria Rebelo (atelier local).
In this book, published by Circo de Ideias, Paulo Martins Barata introduces the concept of metamodern architecture, a new sensibility that outgrows the irreconcilable tenets of the modern/postmodern debate. In nine points loosely based on the principles of metamodern cultural theory – humour, media, collage, ornament, bricolage, technology, form, ecology and ethics –, the author attempts to signal this sensibility in a wide range of emerging practices.

Álvaro Joaquim de Melo Siza Vieira nasceu em Matosinhos em 1933. Estudou Arquitetura na Escola Superior de Belas Artes do Porto entre 1949 e 1955, sendo a sua primeira obra construída em 1954. Foi professor na Faculdade de Arquitetura da Universidade do Porto, cidade onde exerce a sua profissão.

O seu trabalho tem tido amplo reconhecimento internacional, tendo sido distinguido com alguns dos mais importantes prémios no âmbito da arquitetura, dentre os quais, o Prémio Pritzker, em 1992.
