“Dead Man's Bluff” is a parable-like adaptation of the play of the same name by Prista Monteiro. The action takes place on the stairways of a poor neighborhood and tells the story of the final misfortune of a blind old man whose collection box—his official means of livelihood—has already been stolen once. His daughter, in addition to her household chores, toils away ironing clothes for others. Her husband, an unemployed drifter like so many of his friends, lives off the blind man’s collection box, which has now been stolen for the second time. The incident sparks a major conflict that spirals into tragedy, which, by an irony of fate, ultimately frees the daughter from her previous family burden and...
