0811 NASA4NASA - SHAM3DAN

‘Sham3dan’ is a dance performance in which dancers call on ghosts of their predecessors as they harness the magnetic fields they create collectively. This performance draws on the history of the Sham3dan dance in Egypt and the shifts it has undergone across the years.

The work premises the founding mothers of this dance as the ghosts that have carried on the dance to our present. The fictions surrounding their lives always highlighting the sacrifice of dance.

‘Sham3dan’ highlights systems of power in choreography, revealing the commitment and violence of its mastery while seeking to form new assemblages of remembrance.
