Diversity is once again the premise of ars ad hoc, in the third and final programme of its 2024/25 season at Serralves. Marking the centenary of the birth of one of the most important figures of the 20th century in music, the Arte no Tempo chamber music group also proposes listening to three works from the 21st century.
Continuing through the universe of Oscar Bianchi (1975), ars ad hoc presents the national premiere of the trio Antilope [2018], for bass clarinet, cello and piano, by the Italian-Swiss composer. Swapping the bass clarinet for the violin, also using expanded techniques, Trio III [2008] by the Madrid composer José Manuel López López (1956) points to a universe quite different from Bianchi's, in which a complex invisible gear commands a play of proportions. Before Dérive I [1984] - one of the chamber works that Pierre Boulez (1925- 2016) wrote in parallel to Répons [1981-84], exploring in smaller groups some ideas that emerged during the creation of that work, for six soloists, chamber ensemble, fixed electronics and live electronics - ars ad hoc premieres the score that the German Andreas Bäuml (1991) wrote for the occasion, following a call for composers opened by Arte no Tempo last summer.
