Thirty-ninth session of the film series “Manoel de Oliveira and Portuguese Cinema 3,” held in conjunction with the third part of the exhibition of the same name. The session will feature a screening of Manoel de Oliveira's Christopher Columbus—The Enigma (2007), presented by professor and researcher Daniel Ribas.

Having emigrated to the United States at his father’s behest in the 1940s, Manuel Luciano returns to Portugal to study. He returns to the U.S. after earning his medical degree and, passionate about historical research, delves into the mystery of Christopher Columbus’s true identity.

In Portugal, he marries the young Sílvia Jorge. Accompanied by Sílvia, Manuel travels throughout Portugal and the United States, visiting sites linked to the Portuguese discoveries, seeking to unravel the mystery that has troubled him since his youth. Their quest takes them to the island of Porto Santo, where Columbus lived; there, Manuel Luciano and Sílvia find clues that bring them closer to the truth...
