PIERROT LE FOU
Jean-Luc Godard | FRA, ITA | 1965 | 135'
The story of Pierrot, who escapes the constraints of a boring society, travelling from Paris to the Mediterranean Sea with Marianne, a girl pursued by assassins from Algeria. Always on the run, the couple leads an unorthodox life, in a film that is also unorthodox. Jean-Luc Godard even stated that he "wanted to tell the story of the last romantic couple", and he did so using his aesthetic arsenal that marked a significant part of his career during the 1960s: Pop Art colours, references to American culture, and Cinemascope frames.
