Even in what it brings as new, the second program of the 2023/24 season for ars ad hoc ensemble’s concerts at Serralves Auditorium is made up of lines of continuity, keeping with the exploration of the universe of the Italian Clara Iannotta (1983) alongside a work by Beat Furrer (1954) and music by Portuguese composers.

Beat Furrer was the first composer whose work ars ad hoc paid special attention to, in the season of 2018/19, and which the ensemble occasionally revisits, seeking to grow with the works, giving them more mature readings. It is now presented the duo Presto [1998], for flute and piano, dating from the same year as Spur quintet, presented in Serralves last September.

Luís Antunes Pena (1973) was also highlighted in ars ad hoc’s second season of concerts, with his Konvolut quintet [2014] being performed two times. Clara Iannotta (born a decade after L. A. Pena) composed the trio The people here go mad. They blame the wind [2014], which was premiered in Portugal by ars ad hoc in 2022.

A year after having premiered the trio Atropos by young João Moreira (2004) – the first collaboration with the composer, which resulted in one of the works that the Arte no Tempo group has played the most – ars ad hoc once again premieres a work by the same composer, this time accompanied by an artistic installation by the young visual artist Maria Silveira.

Closing this concert, which presents music by composers from different generations and aligned with different aesthetics, ars ad hoc reveals the result of its first confrontation with the music of António Chagas Rosa (1960), offering the listening to the quintet Música de cena para Santo Antão [2012].
