The 47th screening in the “Manoel de Oliveira and Portuguese Cinema 3” film series, held in conjunction with the third part of the exhibition of the same name. The screening will feature Manoel de Oliveira’s O Gebo e a Sombra (2012), with an introduction by professor and researcher Carlos Natálio.

Despite his age and fatigue, Gebo continues to work as an accountant to support his family. He lives with his wife, Doroteia, and his daughter-in-law, Sofia, but it is the absence of his son, João, that worries them. Gebo seems to be hiding something about this, particularly from Doroteia, who anxiously awaits her son’s return. Sofia, for her part, also awaits her husband’s return, while at the same time fearing him. Suddenly, João reappears, and everything changes.
