The screening, dedicated to the theme of Symbolism, will feature Alfred Hitchcock's "Spellbound” (1945), with the presence of artist António Gonçalves and psychoanalyst Cláudia Milheiro, moderated by Isabel Lopes Gomes.

When Dr. Anthony Edwardes arrives at a psychiatric hospital in Vermont to replace the outgoing director, Dr. Constance Peterson, a psychoanalyst, she discovers that Edwardes is actually an impostor. The man confesses that the real Dr. Edwardes is dead and fears that he may have killed him, but he cannot remember anything. Dr. Peterson, however, is convinced that the impostor is innocent of the murder and joins him in a quest to unravel his amnesia through psychoanalysis. Spellbound was an important turning point in Hitchcock’s career. Already a great, technically skilled director in Hollywood, he would quickly become one of the greatest auteurs in American and world cinema.
