Etienne Alexis, candidate for the presidency of the new Europe, is a scientist who promotes artificial insemination for social improvement and therapy to eliminate passion. To celebrate his engagement to a cousin, he organizes an asexual picnic, where Mother Nature imposes herself. A shepherd's flute conjures up a windstorm that brings Alexis together with the sensual Nénette, a peasant girl who wants to have a child but is unimpressed by men. Jean Renoir's third-to-last film, The Party of the Senses is one of the richest examples for exploring the impressionist dimension of father Pierre-Auguste Renoir and son Jean Renoir.
