The experimental film TO SEE THIS DANCE is part of a series of audio-visual
essays made during the doctoral artistic research. With the term
“audiovisual-essay” I experimented with writing as montage. Or with a writing
methodology which involves images, movement image, sound and text discursive
materialities as a way to engage in speculative narratives and fiction. In
these works I use digital and cinematic means in order to re-articulate a
variety of conceptual aspects involved in the performances I have made during
the research. Concretely, the film TO SEE THIS DANCE consists of
translating ECLIPSE : MUNDO's dance practice and conceptual framework to
the digital and cinematic medium, raising questions about what this dance’s
image is and how it makes itself be seen in this particular audio-visual frame.
In the book To Dance in the Age of
No-Future I argue contemporary experimental dance as a non-yet produced
potentiality and as an artistic and conceptual category of ethical and
aesthetic concern. Based on the book, I'd like to share some ideas about how
dance can be generative of aesthetic, ethical and political implications when
it is practiced as being withdrawn from the production of neoliberal value and
its economy of attention. A question which I'd like to also displace into the
context of art practice based research and its processes of mediation, writing
and publication, inasmuch it can also offer some answers regarding the
non-relation between aesthetic experience and production of knowledge in the
time of "communicative capitalism".
