Scenes of the domestic life of a petit bourgeois family, alternating with ""actualities"" on the rise, glory and fall of the Estado Novo regime, drawing a parallel between the traditional father figure and the dictator Salazar. The daughters' conflicts and frustrations (corresponding to two generations) are dialectically represented, in the relationships with their parents, grandmother and the maid. These events, belonging to the private sphere, are confronted with another series of events from the country's collective history... (José de Matos-Cruz, O Cais do Olhar).
