2609 FESTA DO OUTONO

Come and celebrate autumn at the Serralves Foundation!

The Autumn Festival is back, inviting families and the general public to celebrate the new season on 26 and 27 September at Serralves Park. Over two days, the Park — particularly the Farm area — will host a multidisciplinary programme bringing together different forms of artistic, cultural and scientific expression, creating a dialogue between contemporary culture, tradition and nature.

Now in its 16th edition, the event brings together workshops, trails, theatre and music performances, and a wide range of participatory activities exploring biodiversity, the landscape, and the knowledge and skills associated with traditional arts and crafts. The programme also offers an opportunity to visit the Farm, discover its native breeds as well as others specially invited for the Festival, explore the Kitchen Garden, discover seasonal produce and engage with practices rooted in traditional craftsmanship.

The programme also includes activities that encourage reflection on today’s environmental challenges, reinforcing Serralves’ commitment to sustainability and climate action. A highlight in this context is the partnership with BOIL – Climate Festival, presenting a series of artistic installations where art and science come together to foster new ways of understanding climate change and inspire a more informed and engaged citizenship.

More than a festival, the Autumn Festival is a meeting point for different generations, where culture, nature and community come together to celebrate heritage, local resources and practices that contribute to a more sustainable future.

Admission is free, via the entrances on Avenida Marechal Gomes da Costa and Rua Bartolomeu Velho, 141.

WORKSHOPS
SAT, SUN • 10:00–19:00
Location: Meadow

THE WEB*
Concept: Marta Correia
Led by: Eliana Soukiazes, Beatriz Lopes and Ana Filipa Costa

Just as everything in nature is connected, a loom is also constructed thread by thread. In this workshop, families are invited to take part in creating a large collective loom, intertwining fibres and natural elements to form an installation in constant transformation. Each gesture adds a new texture, colour or pattern, celebrating the diversity and connections that sustain relationships within the Park.

MUSHROOM IN TRANSIT*
Concept: Carlota Carqueja
Led by: Carlota Carqueja, Ana Sá and Maria Mata

Amanitas and boletes emerge in autumn and play an essential role in soil renewal and ecosystem balance. In this workshop, families are challenged to create a character-mask inspired by these fascinating fungi. With legs and arms, each creation evokes the universe of artist Seana Gavin and highlights the importance of mushrooms to the Park’s biodiversity.

ROBIN IN SIGHT!
Concept: Mariana Moranduzzo
Led by: Dina Marques, Francisca Melo, Tiago Vouga

With the arrival of autumn, the European robin becomes a familiar presence. Alongside discovering interesting facts about its habits and characteristics, participants are invited to create a crown on which a robin might perch. And from head to head, these birds will travel throughout the festival!

THE GRACIOSA DONKEY!*
Concept: Andreia Machado
Led by: Filipa Dias, Marco Ramos, Andreia Machado

Small in stature but remarkable for its strength and resilience, the Graciosa Donkey provides the starting point for the creation of a hybrid object that will acquire body and movement within the space. Between freedom and play, the donkey becomes a figure of passage — from territory to imagination, from reality to play.

INHABITED LANDSCAPE
Concept and led by: Nathalie Carneiro, Ana Rothes, Gabriela Graça and Joana Mendonça – Oficina Sibila

Come and see what we are making together: a giant landscape. There are lots of us — come and join in! We observe the landscape around us, paint what we can see and use different materials. Then, quietly, we go looking for the tiny landscapes: insects, frogs, roots, tree leaves and everything else we can find. We bring it all together to create an inhabited landscape to contemplate and preserve!

AUTUMN UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Concept: Júlia Mattos
Led by: Júlia Mattos, Maria Brito and Margarida Allen

Autumn transforms Serralves Park. Leaves change colour, fall from the trees and cover the paths, while new textures, sounds and forms emerge across the landscape. Every day, the Park changes, revealing small details that invite us to observe, imagine and discover.

In this workshop, children and families are invited to build, page by page, a collective leporello — a book that unfolds and transforms as it passes through the hands of different participants. Through small prompts inspired by autumn and the Park, each family is invited to observe, draw, experiment, layer and transform, leaving their own interpretation of the season within the leporello.

Like autumn itself, the book is always under construction. Each intervention joins those that came before and can be continued, transformed or reinterpreted by the next participants. Throughout the Autumn Festival, different perspectives and gestures accumulate, creating a collective work that grows and changes over time.

At the end, the leporello remains at Serralves as a record of the families’ passage through the Park and of their different ways of observing and imagining it. A collective construction that never needs to reach an end: as long as there are new hands and new ways of seeing, there will always be room to continue.
