Second session of the new film and talks programme "O Saber do Cinema", curated and moderated by Regina Guimarães and Saguenail.

ROADS
The Knowledge of Cinema, Spectator School, is a series of biweekly screenings held from early fall to early summer, on Saturday mornings (10 a.m.–1 p.m.), at the Casa do Cinema Manoel de Oliveira. The films we will be screening will not be announced in advance. The screenings, intended for an adult audience, will be preceded by a brief introduction and followed by a discussion intended to be lively and participatory. A program sheet with an original text will be distributed at each screening.
In collaboration with the Serralves Museum’s Educational Service, this programme (five screenings) revolves around the theme ROADS. The films, selected by Regina Guimarães and Saguenail, will center on the road—in both the strict and broad senses—and the genre we generally call the road movie.

The images depicting travel inside a vehicle constitute, for the traveler, an experience akin to cinema without a plot: the viewer (in transit but transported) takes in, with varying degrees of attention, the passing exterior scenery. The road movie, whose golden age coincides with the spread of the works of the Beat Generation, simultaneously explores the “moving backdrop” and the “mental journey” of the characters on the road.
