Vexation of Spirit. The Duerckheim Collection x Serralves is the title of the exhibition marking the first presentation at Serralves of the contemporary art collection assembled by Count Duerckheim and recently placed on deposit with the Foundation. Built over four decades, the collection includes works by some of the most important artists of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Considered one of Europe’s most significant private collections, it reflects an artistic vision shaped by moral unease and historical awareness.
On 31 October, Serralves welcomes Paulo Rangel, Minister of State and Foreign Affairs, for a conversation as part of the programme accompanying the exhibition Vexation of Spirit. The Duerckheim Collection x Serralves, currently on view at the Serralves Museum.
Taking the works in the Duerckheim Collection as a starting point, the event invites reflection on the moral concerns and political and social challenges of our time, in a conversation that encourages audiences to question the role of contemporary art and critical thinking in interpreting history and contemporary society.
