Serralves Foundation is promoting the 12th edition of BioBlitz Serralves, the largest event in Portugal dedicated to raising awareness about biodiversity protection.

Aimed at the educational community, families, and the general public, BioBlitz is a leading scientific and educational initiative in the fields of science, environmental education, biodiversity, and sustainability.
Over the course of a week in spring, this event invites participants to discover the fauna and flora of Serralves Park through exploratory methodologies that combine science, art, and culture. Based on a contemporary narrative, it is part of the Sustainability Agenda and is inspired by the 2030 Agenda Sustainable Development Goal "Protect Life on Land," promoting active awareness of the importance of preserving ecosystems.
In 2026, BioBlitz will be held in person for the educational community between April 20 and 24, opening to families and the general public on April 25 and 26, in a unique opportunity to learn about and appreciate biodiversity through a diverse and participatory program.

This 12th edition features a special program dedicated to soil, a central element for the future of the planet. Combining science, art, and citizen participation, topics such as soil biodiversity, erosion, conservation, sustainable agricultural practices, and the vital role of this resource in the health of ecosystems will be addressed. In line with the European context of 2026, marked by the implementation of the European Union's Soil Monitoring and Resilience Law and the strengthening of research under the "A Soil Deal for Europe" Mission, the event is part of the Soil Festival, a European initiative promoted under the Soilscape Project. In this context, communities, artists, scientists, and citizens are invited to reflect and act on the relationship between society and soil, reinforcing the international dimension of BioBlitz and broadening the dialogue between science, art, and citizenship.

More than just an event, BioBlitz Serralves is an invitation for everyone to participate in building a more sustainable future.
