The Arkas Art Center, in Izmir, hosts the exhibition Joan Miró: Image, Text, Sign, which exhibits, for the first time in Turkey, a group of works of Joan Miró from the Portuguese State Collection of Contemporary Art on extended loan to the Porto Municipality, Portugal, and on deposit at Fundação de Serralves – Museu de Arte Contemporânea, Porto, since 2017.
On view from September 26, 2024, through February 9, 2025, the exhibition features 74 works of this important collection and spans six decades of the Barcelona-born Catalan artist’s career. Focusing in particular on the transformation of the pictorial languages developed by Miró from the 1920s onwards, the exhibition gathers paintings, collages, sculptures, drawings and tapestries works of the renowned artist.
The Joan Miró: Image, Text, and Sign exhibition, curated by art historian and academic Robert Lubar Messeri, is organized by Serralves Foundation in collaboration with the Arkas Art Center at Izmir, Turkey.
